Stephen Colbert Welcomes D.C.’s ‘Endangered Swamp Dwellers’ to Kick Off Kennedy Center Honors
The Kennedy Center Honors aired on CBS tonight, and Stephen Colbert kicked off the proceedings by welcoming all the “endangered swamp creatures” in the room.
He got in a few zingers at President Obama, informing him that if he wants to be a future honoree, it’s not easy––”it’s not like the Nobel Peace Prize where they just give those things away.”
Colbert also said that everyone should be able to agree that for the last 8 years, “the White House has given us a leader who is passionate, intelligent, and dignified.”
The audience applauded, Obama stood up, and then Colbert said, “Sir, I don’t know why you stood up, I was talking about Michelle.”
The honorees tonight are James Taylor, Mavis Staples, Al Pacino, Martha Argerich, and The Eagles.
